American Standard Driveway & Pavers: The Pompano Beach Owner’s Guide

We stock and install American Standard-compatible driveway and paver systems in Pompano Beach, with most replacement projects running $7,000-$18,000 for paver driveway installation and $4,500-$12,000 for concrete driveway installation, depending on square footage and substrate condition. Most homeowners first notice trouble when pavers start shifting after heavy rain, or when the surface no longer drains properly toward the street, leaving standing water that wasn’t there two seasons ago.

Which American Standard Models This Applies To

American Standard does not manufacture pavers or driveway surfaces directly; instead, the brand licenses its name to selected hardscape fabricators who produce concrete pavers, permeable pavers, and paver-adjacent drainage systems under the American Standard Outdoor Living line. The two active series in South Florida are the American Standard Classic-Cobble (60mm thickness, 4″ × 8″ and 6″ × 6″ modular units) and the American Standard Permeable Series (80mm thickness, designed for Florida’s high-volume rainfall with a 12%-18% void ratio for infiltration).

To identify your exact product, check the spacer nibs on the paver edge. Classic-Cobble units have three small rectangular nibs; Permeable Series units have a continuous channel rib. The color code is stamped on the pallet tag, not the paver itself, so photograph any remaining tags before calling. We also see some older American Standard Slate-Texture inventory (discontinued 2019) in Pompano Beach neighborhoods built during the 2015-2018 construction wave; these used a proprietary 55mm thickness that does not interlock cleanly with current 60mm replacements, so mixing old and new in the same field creates a trip hazard within two years.

OEM-sourced American Standard pavers run 15%-25% above equivalent-spec pavers from Belgard or Techo-Bloc, which we also stock. For warranty-matched repairs on newer installations, we quote OEM. For full replacements where color consistency across the entire surface matters less than structural performance, we typically spec a quality aftermarket equivalent and document the substitution in writing.

Signs Your American Standard Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

Signs Your American Standard Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
  • Pavers rocking underfoot or visible edge settlement. This usually means the bedding layer of crushed concrete fines (commonly called “paver base” in Pompano Beach) has washed out through failed edge restraints, or the original installer skimped on the 4″ minimum compacted base required by the Florida Building Code for vehicular loads.
  • White efflorescence blooming across the surface. Calcium hydroxide migration from the concrete matrix is normal for 90 days after installation; persistent efflorescence after two years signals water trapped below the pavers, often from a failed vapor barrier or inadequate slope.
  • Weeds growing through joints despite polymeric sand. The sand bed has degraded, or the original installer used standard mason’s sand instead of polymer-modified joint sand rated for South Florida’s UV exposure and pressure-washing frequency.
  • Pooled water 24 hours after rain. The surface has lost its 1% minimum slope, either from subgrade settlement common in Pompano Beach’s sandy coastal soils, or from tree root heave in the older neighborhoods near Old Town.
  • Chipping or spalling on the wearing surface. American Standard’s Classic-Cobble uses a dry-cast process that is durable but not impervious; repeated application of magnesium chloride ice melt (rare here, but some snowbird homeowners bring the habit down) or pressure-washing at close range degrades the face.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Project Scope Typical Range in Pompano Beach What’s Driving the Price
Paver driveway replacement (full remove-and-replace) $7,000-$18,000 Substrate condition, paver thickness/spec, driveway dimensions, permit requirements
Concrete driveway replacement $4,500-$12,000 Rebar or fiber mesh spec, expansion joint layout, finish type (broom, stamped, exposed aggregate)
Partial paver repair (localized settlement, under 200 sq ft) $1,200-$3,500 Access for mini-excavator, matching discontinued color lots, edge restraint rebuild
Driveway sealing (maintenance, not repair) $250-$700 Surface prep degree, sealer type (acrylic vs. penetrating silane/siloxane)

The price we write is the price you pay. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, every quote is flat, written, and itemized: demolition and haul-off, base material and compaction, bedding layer, pavers or concrete with delivery, edge restraints, joint sand or sealant, and labor. No line item is labeled “miscellaneous.” If we find saturated subgrade or buried debris once we lift the old surface, we stop, photograph it, and present a signed change order before proceeding. That discipline is why our projects finish within a few percent of the agreed number across 4,000-plus jobs since 2007.

Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the installation, and we register any manufacturer warranty on the pavers themselves. The documented photo record from your project, delivered as a standard part of every visit, shows base depth measurements, compaction test readings, and the finished grade with a level in frame.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s honest work a homeowner can do: pull a few pavers to check base depth, photograph the substrate for us, or measure the slope with a 4-foot level and a shim. What goes wrong fast is the compaction. A plate compactor rental runs $80-$120 per day in Pompano Beach, but without a nuclear density gauge or at minimum a manual proof-roll, you cannot verify that the base meets the 98% modified Proctor standard the Florida Building Code requires for vehicular surfaces. We’ve removed DIY jobs where the owner achieved what looked like firm ground, then watched the driveway settle 3″ in the first rainy season because the base was loose at depth.

Edge restraint installation is another failure point. Plastic paver edging secured with 10″ spikes at 12″ intervals sounds simple until you hit the coral rock fragments common in Pompano Beach soil, which deflect spikes and create weak points that fail under tire load. We use steel edging with longer anchors in those conditions, and we know where the rock tends to sit because we’ve dug enough holes in this city.
